I understand the basics of measuring the facing itself. But so much about a mouthpiece depends on the inside measurements. Mattson used popsicle sticks to measure the depth of the baffle, but I'm sure there are less idiosyncratic ways to do it. What tool do you use and how do you make sure you're measuring at the same distance from the tip consistently from mouthpiece to mouthpiece.

Also, are there ways that don't risk damaging the  mouthpiece to measure the throat width? I've always just eyeballed it, but I'm not sure I can see small differences reliably.

I use a Starrett Digital Caliper where the top measures both inside and outside measurements and the bottom measures depth at the bore. I eyeball the inside shapes.

I show how baffle shapes can be measured using tip opening gauge (not a wand) in several of my YouTube videos. 

 I show measuring the throat width too.  For this you can use a telescoping bore gauge along with a set of calipers.
