Good day fellow refacers

 I'm a bit confused on plotting mouthpieces that are crooked...

 May I ask how do you plot a measurement that fell between 2 lines of the glass gauge? Say example on a 0.50mm, the left side of the mouthpiece fell on the 3rd line after "10" (I use traditional gauge by the way) and the other one fell between the 3rd and 4th line after "10"...

 How do you guys plot that reading on the right side of the mouthpiece?

 Thank you

If you want to keep the crookedness, pick a side and continue. If you want to correct the crookedness, I made an Excel file that keeps track of the numbers and I chart the short side and note a L or R next to it so I know which side to fix. If it is bad, I will turn a second sand paper over next to the sandpaper I am cutting with, and only work on one side at a time.

So you mean you don't plot the crooked side and just take note of it?

Does crookedness affect the ease of blowing?

It adds resistance IMO. It also makes the mouthpiece seem Reed picky since it will only play well with a crooked balanced Reed.

I have found it difficult to find single feeler gauges larger than .034", so I have also settled for stacking gauges for the larger sizes. Local industrial supply shops usually only carry up to .050" (if that). Past that, I would have to buy a whole box - very expensive, too long (8"), and what am I going to do with a whole box of .065" feeler gauges?
Anyone know where to purchase single gauges ~3.5" long in .050", .065", .075", .100"? Are Theo's gauges the only option out there?
Thanks, Richard

In my opinion, theo's gauges are the best in line so far provided that you have a budget for it

Resistance in a positive light or resistance in a negative light?

So that means, when a mouthpiece has a crooked facing, it is hard for one to find a reed that will compensate to the mouthpiece?

IMO = In My Opinion.

Eastern Industries has all types of feelers. But a custom set is expensive in small quantities. I think Wanne's larger feelers are spaced too far apart.
