you didn’t say what brand of reed is causing the problem…..different brands have different profiles……try a brand with a thicker tip (for a given strength) such as LaVoz or “orange box” Rico

not all reeds are the same by any stretch of the imagination and there’s FAR more to it than “strength"

Hi, I am using a 2 rico royal on a florida tenor piece faced to a 7. The mouthpiece  passes the 'pop' test so I assume the facing must be pretty good but it  is shrill. I have also lessened the baffe size to a moderate 3mm in height.
