Hello folks. I am a new subscriber to the group. It has been a number of years since I worked on mouthpieces.

My immediate quest is to find a facing-schedule for either Otto Link or old Dukoff Hollywood 5*.

I have lost all my schedules. I had a complete set that Ralph Morgan gave me when I bought his measuring tools. What  loss. I was hoping to find scads of charts here. The "files" section has only a few, and some of those appear to be theoretical.

Is there a motherload? If not, could we start one?

Each 5* measures different. Either from wear/alteration over time or manufacturing variation. You can measure a few if you can get your hands on any. This is why this group tends to calculate curves based on tip opening and facing length targets for a particular set of feelers.

I have a scan of a Sax Journal article Morgan wrote where he listed a bunch of (now vintage) facing schedules for the Brand feelers. I was never able to get measurements of pristine vintage mouthpieces to agree with these charts. But I can send it to you if you wish.

At one time I was going to upload a lot of Morgan's SJ articles to the Yahoo group site. But SJ did not grant permission to do this. They are probably still selling back issues so I doubt they will give permission until there is no one left to ask.

IMO, you'll be much better off if you give the LInk/old Dukoff Hollywood a nice, standard radial facing and use the time you are spending looking for the original schedule, to perfect the roll-over baffle/tip rail.  That's what makes a great Link-type mouthpiece what it is, not the facing.

Okay, I get it. I wanted a fish, but yous guys insist on teaching me to fish. [Mutter, mutter.]

Here I go. I assume that by "radial facing" you mean an arc of a circle, tangent to the mouthpiece table. Hmmm. Is that best? Anyway, I fished the Pythagorean theorem out of my old brains and gave it a go. Tip opening 0.85. I guessed that a 0.0015 feeler ought to wind up between 24 and 25 mm. Settled on a nominal facing length of 28mm. (Drudgery! My computer was on the blink and I had to do all the calculations on a calculator.)

Here is what I came up with. (The computer is all better, thank you very much, but I have not checked the figures.) Are these numbers good, you reckon?

0.0015 24.3
0.01 18.4
0.024 13.1
0.034 10.3
0.05 6.5

P.s. I am not working on an Otto Link or Dukoff. I mentioned them only as examples of the kind of facing I want.

Pps. I meant tip opening 0.085". Sorry for the typo.

Dunno. All the best Link chambers I ever played were made that way, post facing, by fine baffle adustments. Some of the other guys may have special Link facing schedules that do it all.

Those numbers are well within the range of playable facings. Exactly how well it will work in your particular case is impossible to tell but it's a reasonable starting point.

Your numbers represent a good radial curve as long as you aim for a tip measurement of .085 measured at the OUTSIDE edge of the tip rail.

I mention it because a lot of guys measure tips at the inside of the tip rail. When you do this, your targets have to be adjusted for your target tip rail thickness if you want a radial curve.

According to the Bradbury/Donaldson Spreadsheet I use, If you aim for a .030" tip rail and .085" at the inside of the tip rail, your targets should be more like:
 .0015 24.3
 .010 18.6
 .024 13.5
 .034 10.7
 .050 7.1
