Mouthpiece Work / Shameless plug

SUBJECT: Shameless plug
Got my website re-written, with the new mouthpieces available. I'm machining myself them from solid brass and rod rubber, (OK, a computer's machining them, but I did the programming). I thought the videos of the CAD/CAM and machining processes would be relevant to our interests here -- morganfrymouthpieces.com/content/model-machine

Looks awesome! Any plans to have them distributed? On Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at 11:18 AM, Morgan <frymorgan@...> wrote: > ** > > > Got my website re-written, with the new mouthpieces available. Spank you! You just want attention. Looks great Morgan. How may axis of motion? Do you need to start with square bar billets (as opposed to round rod) for work holding stability? --- On Tue, 1/31/12, Morgan <frymorgan@...> wrote: From: Morgan <frymorgan@...> Subject: [MouthpieceWork] Shameless plug To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com Date: Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 4:18 PM Got my website re-written, with the new mouthpieces available. Thanks Matt. As far as distribution (aside from direct), they're in one of the shops over here and will be in more soon. Working on a couple of things for the States but nothing in concrete yet. --- In MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com, Matthew Voss <matthewvossjazz@...> wrote: > > Looks awesome! Yeah, square billets moves workholding from very difficult to trivial. A lot more waste when it comes to the rubber pieces (need to square oversized rounds), but worth it. Only 3 axes of motion. Takes more setups but a lot less machine. I suppose if you had a lathe with a bar feeder, 2 spindles and an A axis you could run them all night long. You'd never make enough mouthpieces to pay for it.... --- In MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com, MartinMods <lancelotburt@...> wrote: > > Spank you!  You just want attention. > > > > Looks great Morgan.  How may axis of motion? Do you need to start with square bar billets (as opposed to round rod) for work holding stability? > > --- On Tue, 1/31/12, Morgan <frymorgan@...> wrote: > > From: Morgan <frymorgan@...> > Subject: [MouthpieceWork] Shameless plug > To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com > Date: Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 4:18 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > Got my website re-written, with the new mouthpieces available. Are the brass and HR tenor pieces the same design? The two clips sound REALLY close! The general character is quite similar. The HR piece sounds a little more fluffy. He's playing a little less aggressively though. I really like the aesthetic of the metal piece in particular. Bravo! it's very difficult (although certainly possible) to produce a comparison recording for internet use that is accurate at a reasonable expense using tools most people have as opposed to using a professional studio. That being said, the consumers seem to take everything they hear as absolute..... On Feb 1, 2012, at 11:27 AM, Matthew Voss wrote: > > Are the brass and HR tenor pieces the same design? Great audio demos Morgan. Some of the best I've heard and I'm sure the investment was mostly in compensating the excellent players. They do your craftsmanship and design expertise justice and that means, onward and upward.... You can be proud to put your name on it. --- On Wed, 2/1/12, STEVE GOODSON <saxgourmet@...> wrote: From: STEVE GOODSON <saxgourmet@cox.net> Subject: Re: [MouthpieceWork] Re: Shameless plug To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com Date: Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 6:03 PM it's very difficult (although certainly possible) to produce a comparison recording for internet use that is accurate at a reasonable expense using tools most people have as opposed to using a professional studio. The CAD model of the chamber is the same, but I finish the HR a little differently. Sure, Dave's playing it less aggressively, but everyone who picks one up seems to do that, even when the dimensions are all the same. People just seem to want to ply HR a little warmer, a little more fluffy, than metal. So a little bit different treatment in the hand finishing brings those differences out a little. --- In MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com, Matthew Voss <matthewvossjazz@...> wrote: > > Are the brass and HR tenor pieces the same design? Cheers Lance. I'm really happy with how they sound as well. I think I'm very fortunate to know generous people who like my work and are smokin players with their own studios. --- In MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com, MartinMods <lancelotburt@...> wrote: > > Great audio demos Morgan.
