Chamber SHAPE Baffle shape is the most important part of the complete chamber shape. But also of interest: 1. General air flow considerations: A. Side wall shaping, straight or curved. B. Ramp shaping. 2. Horn specific considerations (assuming horn is known): A. Smooth transition to the neck. B. Tuning (missing conic truncation volume). ----- Original Message ----- From: STEVE GOODSON To: STEVE GOODSON Sent: Monday, May 26, 2008 1:11 PM Subject: [MouthpieceWork] Topic Outline for Mouthpiece Refacing Video Here's a rough outline.....any omissions?......comments?....we hope to start shooting next week DESIGN PRINCIPLES Chamber Size Baffle Shape Height Rollover Straight cliff Side Rail Width Tip Rail Width Facing Curves Short vs. long playing characteristics elliptical vs. non-elliptical TOOLS Measuring Glass Gauge Tip Opening Gauge Dial Digital Manual Feeler Gauges Modification Tools Leveling surface Glass Plate Granite Block Emery Paper Files Polishing Compounds Motor Tools Epoxy Putty Bite Plate Material Choices MEASURING TECHNIQUES Flatness of the table Glass Gauge and feelers Tip Measuring CORRECTING FLAWS Flattening the table balancing the curve Evening the tip rail Shaping the tip MODIFICATION Increasing the tip opening cutting the tip itself changing the table angle Changing the curve using files using emery paper Narrowing the side rails Narrowing the tip rail Installing an epoxy baffle CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Polishing metal hard rubber plastic Gilding trademarks replacing bite plates PLEASE VISIT MY WEB SITES http://www.orpheusmusic.com http://stevegoodsonsaxophones.com http://www.nationofmusic.com http://www.saxnation.com/forum/ http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/SaxophoneRepair/ http://www.saxgourmet.com http://www.cafepress.com/saxgourmet http://saxophonethoughts.blogspot.com/ http://www.MySpace.com/saxgourmet http://youtube.com/results?search_query=saxgourmetsteve&search_type The Music Business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs.
