Is there anywhere that I might find information about the theory of
mouthpiece design? Things like how chamber shape, diameter, wall
thickness, ridges, etc. affects the air flow and what effect it has on
the tone produced?

Thank you,

David

I have not found any. There are some empirical studies. The Thesis by
Larry Wyman is a good read. You need to order a copy. See the Links -
Lterature, Info. area on the MouthpieceWork site. The Ferron book has a
few pages.

There are some articles by Santy Runyon on this site, I believe that
cover some basics. They are definitely worth reading.

Arthur Benade's "Fundamentals of Musical Acoustics" has a small
subsection entitled: "The Reed Cavity and Neck Proportions in Conical
Instruments" which is informative, as is the rest of the book.
(Truthfully, it is mostly 'over my head') It prob. won't do much in
practical sense helping you whittle a mouthpiece. Maybe there is some
better text out there.

Well, I'm a newbie on this site and I must be doing something wrong
because I did an author search, separately, for Santy and Runyon and
NOTHING came up. When one does a search, does it search all the way
back to the beginning of the group, just the last "X" timeframe, the
whole groups site, or none-of-the-above?

Searching the old messages is not real fun. It is an art to come up with
the right search words and Yahoo only gives a page of results at a time.

But in this case, you are just looking in the wrong are of the Yahoo
MouthpieceWork site. Go instead to the Files area and the Links area.
Both have leads to articles of interest.

Thank you. I did an advanced search under "author". I will look in the files area.

Some day I will get it right.

Thank you,

David
