Here is an indication of the interest in a refacing "kit":

The feeler set would need to be expanded. Could use a "real" glass gage
too.

The base for the dial gage looks like a purchased item. Anyone recognize it?

That dial gage base is the most interesting part of this kit. Perhaps he
gets it from the same source as the dial gage. Googling for the name of the
dial gage manufacturer ("MBC Industrial Supply") only found other ebay
items, however.

I did find this:

It usually goes on sale for $7.99 though.

If some sort of easy to obtain, or modify for our use, fixture can be obtained as per that photo, that will really make things easy for us.

Here is a link to my website showing pictures of two different models
that I made, one using a square and the other using a combination
square.
http://www.craigchristman.com/dial_gauge_for_measuring_tip_ope.htm
Both were easy to make and there is a brief description of how I made
them. The cost of each sqaure was under $10 and it only took about 15
minutes to make them (once I figure certain things out of course!)

I've been searching some. Tough to find decent key words.
But "indicator holder" got me a hit. I'm seeing hits for magnetic
bases, which we do not need, but they tend to have a "hand lapped"
surface which is nice to have. This looks in the ball park:

I don't think either of these is quite what we want, but getting closer. We need something that will hold the dial somewhat higher than the plane of the table/facing.

  Hopefully we'll find something.

Wow... good googling! It sure looks like you found the exact item in
question, it matches the pic on ebay very well. So one side of it has to be
"hand-lapped" flat to rest the mouthpiece table on. I wonder if it's a
casting or made of sintered metal.
