I'm using the Vandoren V16 T75 metal tenor mouthpice
and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the
Optima lig as the sales rep was hyping it pretty good.
Does it really make a difference compared to a 'generic' lig?

thanks

I've not played an Optima on one of these mouthpieces, but I have on clarinet, and they are very good, certainly better than the average metal lig. I'm currently playing on a BG Tradition gold plated lig on clarinet which I like very much too.

I use one to test alto mouthpieces. They are a great design and work/sound
well. They are about as good as my alto Winslow with less fuss to put it
on.

I have one that will fit a metal V16 tenor. It is listed on my site. You
are welcome to try it for $5 s/h.

Hi Keith,
I was wondering if you have had any problem with the Optima fitting your mouthpieces. After being impressed with the tenor ligature that i bought I went out and bought them for clarinet, soprano adn alto and all three of these are just a little too large...even on a variety of mouthpieces. Any thoughts?
  best regards,
  James

The one I use for alto mouthpieces fits all the Meyer-sized mouthpieces.
Vandoren, Selmers and Morgan fit.

The V16 metal does not fit a lot of tenor mouthpieces. So I gave up
trying. Recently I tried it on a Link and I was suprised it fit. But I
like the simplicity of a 404 lig on a Link.

The Vandoren "Optimum" tenor lig was a bit too large for my Ponzol M1.

I cut a small cylindrical plastic pill container to shape, and super-glued
it into place as a "lining" for the ligature, to shim it out to fit the
Ponzol. This has worked well.

I have never tried the Winslow ligatures because they are so expensive
what makes the Winslow ligatures so great?

Like mouthpieces, there is no single ligature design that works for
everyone.

The Winslow is probably more adjustable/configurable than any other
ligature ever made. It can be configured in a dozen or more different ways
by moving several reed contact points among a 3 x 3 grid (9 locations).
The idea is to test various configurations out to see what works best for
your mouthpiece and reed choice. This can take hours. But once you
determine a good arrangement, you can just use it without doing any
follow-up testing.

I like them. But I also use other ligatures that work great, or good
enough, and cost a lot less. Rovner Lights are a great value.
