Could someone send me a file for e-machine shop with the tenor blank
on it.?? hhm478@...

I did all the design work to develop the design file for the tenor blank.
I do not plan to make the files public beyond the pictures that have been
posted.

Speaking as a man who tried to do it himself, it's not easy, at least for
those of us with a non-engineering background. I didn't succeed, but I am
sure it took a HUGE amount of time, even for someone with CAD skills.

Well, I guess that answers that question. I was just getting ready to
ask if you would send me the model. I am a very advanced SolidWorks
user, and I have had a BEAR of a time trying to design one.

Keith, I am only on this message after starting at the beginning and
reading EVERY WORD. Is there a chance that you might do some more
blanks at any time?

Thank you,

David

There is a chance. But eMachineShop really struggled to supply the blanks
I designed via their software. On a private follow-up project they raised
their prices ~2X and then just rejected the effort after I submitted a
design. They had trouble with lower baffles, tip and tip rail shapes, and
thin walls at the base of the window "U".

I have done some design work using AutoDesk Inventor. This is still quite
involved but at least the software has enough 3D functions to make the
geometry you want. There are machine shops that can quote parts from the
3D CAD files. But we would need to order on the order of 100 brass blanks
of the same design to get a price of about $100 each.

It is cheaper to buy Asian-made metal mouthpieces off eBay for blanks.

As a clarification, my student is NOT in the business of mouthpiece
manufacturing. He is an engineer who has a "real" job, and is NOT soliciting
moutpiece design work. He's helped me (and has been paid to do so), but
that's not "what he does" for a living.
