I have a question for anyone. I have 2 L27 Brancher Mouthpieces. Both do the same thing. When you first put a read on the Mouthpiece it plays great for the first say 20 - 30 minutes but after a while air begins to escape from between the read and the mouthpiece right a quarter of an inch on the outside of your lips. Has anyone else had this problem with these mouthpieces and what can be done to correct it. I thought it might be that the rails were oneven but I have checked them it they are right on. I am using 3.5 Java reads on them. Any help would be appreciated....

Sounds like your reeds are swelling a lot in the center and making the edges rise. You can try flattening them after they swell. The mouthpiece table is probably flat, but you can check it to see if it is a little convex. Some like to make the table concave for this problem, but I think a flat table and flat reed is a better solution. You can also try some synthetic reeds. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Photos - easier uploading and sharing. http://photos.yahoo.com/

I agree with Mojo's diagnosis. I have the exactly the same problem with my old Florida Link STM. In fact, the leak occurs in precisely the same spot at you describe. For me it seems to be worse with certain brands of cane reeds. I used to play regular Ricos all the time, which are pretty thin through the heel, so that if they warp, it's more noticeable. It's not as bad with Vandoren V16s, which have a thick heel section. And the capper is that it doesn't happen at all with Fibracells. Come to think of it, this is a good excuse to send this mpc to Mojo for a touch-up...after the Christmas bills are paid! ;-) Mike >From: Keith Bradbury <kwbradbury@...> >Reply-To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com >To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com >Subject: Re: [MouthpieceWork] Brancher Mouthpieces >Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2003 13:20:16 -0800 (PST) > >Sounds like your reeds are swelling a lot in the center and making the >edges rise. I seal off the backs of my reeds after breaking them in. Some use sandpaper, but I use a large mill bastard file. Just keep the tip away from it. In winter, with the dry relative humidity caused by heating systems, my reeds warp if I even look at them! It can be really frustrating. Also, some ligatures contribute to warping --Jim Fay -----Original Message----- From: Mike Ruhl [mailto:meruhl@...] Sent: Monday, December 22, 2003 4:30 PM To: MouthpieceWork@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [MouthpieceWork] Brancher Mouthpieces I agree with Mojo's diagnosis. Keith and Mike are absolutely right. That is the thing that frustrates me most when using cane especially the blue box Vandoren reeds. I prefer reeds with a thick heel section . I found that some reeds needs flattening about 3 times before producing good results. My experience is that a good (well designed) ligature do help a little to promote a good seal.
